30 Day Music Meme: Day Twenty Two

Day 22- A song you listen to when you’re sad

I tried to break the cycle, I really did! I tried to pick a song that wasn’t from the 80s, but gosh darn I’m drawn to that decade like a magnet! Today’s song is Total Eclipse of the Heart, the 1983 hit from Welsh warbler Bonnie Tyler.

What can be sadder than a total eclipse of the heart?! It’s the perfect song to listen to when I’m sad (except maybe a bit of Coldplay, as discussed on Day 4). This song is made for wallowing in your own self pity and sadness. Except when watching the ‘Literal Video’ version on YouTube. That cracks me up! Watch it if you haven’t already!

  1. Heehee, it's very cute how attached you are to 80s music. I too love 80s music but I think for me I'm stuck in the 70s! I boogie to disco and Bee Gees like nobody's business, haha.

This probably sounds way geeky, but Barry Manilow's "Mandy" always tugs at my heartstrings and makes me sad. Westlife does a pretty good job in their cover of it.

  2. I like a bit of the 70s too, but the 80s just draw me to them, like a magpie to shiny things! Maybe it's because most of the music Mum used to play was from then? Though saying that, I like a lot of people she never listened to either! She did play the Bee Gees though, I like to listen to them every now and again.

I can see the Mandy thing! Isn't it strange how different songs make people sad for different reasons? Same with films. Like, Sister Act 2 always makes me tear up. How insane does that sound?! (they win the competition and save the school, it's tears of joy!)
