The C Word

Around this time of the year, the C word usually is Christmas. People start saying in November ‘Is it too early to mention the C word?’ or ‘I’m so excited this year for C********’. But that’s not the one I’m one about today. Nor is the more naughty C U Next Tuesday C Word! No, the C word today is cancer.

In March 2009 my father was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. I don’t think I’ll ever forget that week, I was in the middle of my 3rd year college exams when he was admitted to hospital. I remember sitting an exam and managing to convince the supervisors to let me leave early so I could run to get the bus to take me on the 2 hour journey to the hospital. And 2 weeks later I had to move across the country to do work experience. Luckily the treatment worked and this time last year he stopped chemo and went into remission. Dad went for regular check ups and last month something showed up. It happened so fast, check up Wednesday, phone call Wednesday evening and then overnight admission to hospital Thursday and chemotherapy started again following Thursday. I don’t know why but this time it seems to have affected me more. Maybe it’s because this time Dad will lose his hair. Maybe it’s because he’s found it very difficult to wrap his head around it and has been so up and down, it’s hard to watch someone go through something so emotionally. Maybe it’s because this time he’ll have to get a bone marrow transplant, it sounds so scary and daunting.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they caught it early again thanks to the regular check ups. It’s just, even though it’s hard to deal with something like this at any time, it seems especially hard around Christmas time. Next chemo session is this Thursday meaning Dad should feel well for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but will more than likely be ill for my sister’s 21st a few days later. I am glad to be closer to home this time though.

This has mainly been the reason for my lack of posts, hopefully I’ll be able to get back into the swing of things again soon!

The Good and The Bad

It seems that recently, most my posts have been apologies about not posting that often. Sorry about that. I don’t know what it is, I’ve lost my mojo or something! I’ll try and try again to get back in the swing though.

This time of the year is probably my favourite and also least favourite months. I have the bad things:

-It was around this time that my Nana died. I was very close to her and it still upsets me.

-It’s also coming up to the anniversary of my friend Mags.

-The weather getting worse and the days shorter don’t help with my mood really, it really brings me down.

-All this is made worse by not having a job.

Though on the flip side, there’s generally lots of good too! Like:

-It’s my birthday soon!

-The weather is great snuggling and cosy weather.

-Halloween! (my favourite holiday but I’m not sure what my plans are this year *sadface*)

-Christmas is just around the corner.

-I love autumn and winter foods!

So I’ll try and buck up a bit more. I still have a backlog of stuff to right about. And please, if you have ANY Halloween costume ideas, let me know in a comment below!

Update!

Hello! I’m still alive. I haven’t posted in ages despite really wanting to. I’ve just become so busy in the past few weeks. Since being unemployed since the end of 2009, I’ve finally got a job! Yay! At the moment I’m being trained in and if they decide to keep me on, I’ll be covering sick days and holidays. It’s not huge but it’s in the area of work I studied for in college and there is a possibility I get more work so I’m excited. I’ve finished 3 weeks out of 4 of training and I like it so far.
I’ve also got my first car! My Mum bought it for me and I’ll be paying her back, instead of getting a loan out, so I’m very lucky in that sense. It’s a Toyota Corolla and I’ve been driving it every day to work. The amount of independence having your own car brings is unreal. I wish I had realised it years ago, so I would have been more focused on getting my license.
The last thing really is that I’ve been sick for the past week, which is when I really wanted to buckle down and get some posts published. It’s always the way! And it’s typical that I start work and get sick, so upset by that but there’s nothing you can do about it!
Oh ya, I just remembered! I went to get my eyes checked a month ago and was told I no longer need glasses! My eyes got better all by themselves! Super eyes
